Project Summary
DLG SHAPE were engaged to complete the refurbishment project involving upgrading 17 apartments within Swinburne University’s SPS and SPW buildings, along with additional works on five shared apartments at 44 William Street.
The scope of works included demolition, installation of new kitchen joinery and whitegoods, accessible room joinery and new workstations. Additionally, new blinds, furniture, pinboards, carpet, tiling, partitions, and painting works were completed on doors, walls, and ceilings. The project involved significant joinery coordination to ensure the spaces, particularly the accessible kitchens, were functional. This often required close collaboration with the architect to find effective solutions.
The works were carried out over the end-of-year break in a live environment among student residents, requiring careful coordination to minimize noise disruption. Extensive communication was essential, with regular updates to students regarding noisy work schedules, along with signage explaining the project’s progress and the role of DLG SHAPE.
DLG SHAPE also demonstrated their commitment to sustainability and community support through the donation of microwaves, fridges, toasters, and kettles to various Neighbourhood House locations in Melbourne that would have otherwise been disposed of.
